Title: Hydrogen and the energy landscape: fuel cells, electrolyzers, emerging opportunities and implementation projects.
Speaker: Prof. Héctor D. Abruña, Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Center for Alkaline Based Energy Solutions (CABES), Energy Materials Center at Cornell (emc2) and Abruña Energy Initiative, Cornell University, New York, USA.
When: 12:00 CET, Tuesday, December 10th, 2024.
Place: Sala de Grados, Module 8, Faculty of Science, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
Over the recent past, there has been an increasing interest in enabling hydrogen-based energy technologies including fuel cells and electrolyzers. This presentation will deal with a brief overview of these areas followed by some of our recent and ongoing work at CABES on fuel cells, especially in alkaline media. Our early work on the hydrogen (HER) and oxygen (OER) evolution reactions will be discussed along with some preliminary electrolyzer results and emerging opportunities. Particular emphasis will be placed on materials synthesis and operando characterization. The presentation will also cover technology deployment and implementation projects at Cornell University and in Vieques, Puerto Rico. The presentation will conclude with an assessment of future directions.
