Title: Clip-off Chemistry: Synthesis by bond breaking in reticular materials.
When: 12:00 CET, Thursday, May 19th, 2022.
Place: Sala de Grados, Module 8, Faculty of Sciences, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
Speaker: Prof. Daniel Maspoch from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Barcelona.
Historically, innovations in synthetic methods and reactions have changed the way scientists think about designing and synthesizing materials and molecules. Indeed, novel synthetic methods not only unlock access to previously unattainable structures, but also inspire new concepts as to how we design and build materials. In this talk, I will present the concept of bond breaking in reticular materials as a new synthetic methodology that we have named Clip-off Chemistry. This novel synthetic strategy affords new molecules and materials through the precise spatial control over bond cleavage. In this talk, Prof. Maspoch will show the principles of clip-off chemistry and the first examples of structures and molecules synthesized through this synthetic methodology.
